Water damage is a race against corrosion. Minerals and chemicals in water start reacting with your phone’s circuit board right away, and the damage spreads over hours and days. What you do in the first 30 minutes can make the difference between a quick cleaning and a dead phone.
Do this immediately
- Get it out and power it off. Don’t check if it still works—turning it on or pressing buttons can short circuits.
- Don’t charge it. Plugging in a wet phone is one of the most damaging things you can do.
- Remove the case and SIM tray. This lets trapped water escape.
- Dry the outside with a lint-free cloth. Gently tap the phone, port side down, to drain water.
- Bring it to a repair shop as soon as you can. Call (818) 937-9696 and let us know you’re on the way.
Don’t do this
- Don’t put it in rice. Rice doesn’t pull water out of internal components and can leave starch dust inside ports.
- Don’t use a hair dryer—heat can damage the screen and battery.
- Don’t shake it hard; that spreads water further inside.
Isn’t my phone water-resistant?
Many phones have IP67/IP68 ratings, but water resistance weakens with age, drops, heat and previous repairs. It also isn’t designed for salt water, pool chemicals, pressure from jets or sugary drinks.
What a repair shop does
At Telasco Wireless we open the phone, disconnect the battery, inspect the board for corrosion and clean affected areas. Then we test every function and tell you what—if anything—needs replacing, such as the charging port, speaker or microphone, or screen.
Will my photos be saved?
Often, yes. Even when a phone can’t be fully restored, we can sometimes revive it long enough to back up your data. Turn on automatic iCloud or Google Photos backup so you’re protected next time.
